About

It’s back! This year’s Light Up Wakefield weekend invites you to see a spectacular trail of installations and experience the city in a whole new light!

From 17-19 November, Light Up Wakefield will delight visitors with 3 days of light installations, craft activities, Christmas Craft & Gift Market, street entertainment and more.

Prepare to be in awe as LEAP, by imitating the dog, takes place on all three evenings 5pm-8pm. LEAP is a projection mapping piece which combines heartfelt storytelling, stunning animations and a live singer. Set against the backdrop of the first moon landing in 1969, the show tells the magical story of a phone conversation across time and between generations. Part pop-opera and part storybook, you don’t want to miss this!

See The Glasshouse by Wayne Sables, an immersive light and sound experience that creates a kaleidoscope of colour transforming the space into a mesmerising experience before going on the hunt for The Light Cycle… The adventures of a bike with an imagination.

Head to Nocturno for Funkytown – a Westgate windows boogaloo by Tony Wade and Helen Thomas, who are working with the local community to co-create a wall of individually illuminated windows, expect a disco effect! Why not head to a FunkyTown lantern making workshop too… Find out more here. Beautiful Hazards will also be lighting up the windows of Theatre Royal Wakefield.

Explore a delightful selection of crafts, gifts and treats from traders at the Christmas Craft & Gift Market located in a festive marquee. Grab a bite to eat from the street food vendors before warming up around the fire in the tipi bar. The perfect opportunity to have a drink whilst listening to live music!

Perfect for the whole family – Fettle & Fable Theatre will present a newly created walkabout show The Usherette and her shadow show ‘Eek’. This shadow show follows a tenacious mouse and its attempt to reach the moon made of cheese. A captivating ‘tail’ of mice, music and mayhem!

Event partners Trinity Walk, Wakefield Cathedral, The Ridings Shopping Centre, CAPA College and The Art House will also host festive activities including crafts, light installations, Santa’s Grotto, and much more! Find out more here.
